Google is about to take over the smartphone business of HTC
According to the Chinese website Commercial Times ( via DigiTimes ), Google is about to take over the smartphone business of HTC. The one hundred percent VR subsidiary HTC Vive Tech Corporation would not be affected. According to DigiTimes, August was the lowest-selling month for HTC for 13 years. Whether Google actually accepts HTC or plans only a strategic partnership, is not yet clear. HTC will again produce a smartphone for Google: the new pixelsModels are expected in October. Google in 2012 had the manufacturer Motorola adopted and the smartphone business to Lenovo in 2014 sold.
The Taiwanese smartphone and VR manufacturer HTC is intensifying its thoughts about a strategic reorientation. According to Bloomberg , the company has already held several talks about a sale of the VR subsidiary, including Google / Alphabet . But a complete detachment from the attacked parent society could also become more concrete. So far, Vive is a wholly owned subsidiary of HTC.
HTC: sale or complete detachment of the VR division
The renowned site Bloomberg reports that the Taiwanese manufacturer wants to reorganize the future of its VR division. This includes a sale. However, the company could also completely outsource its business with Virtual Reality and found an independent company. The latter seems more likely because, according to the report, the chances of a sale are bad. It follows that HTC already led several discussions with various companies, including with Google / alphabet . However, it would not have been possible to find a buyer to which the board of directors was fully satisfied. Whether the HTC is currently conducting further talks, is not known.
But there is still no final decision and maybe everything will continue as before, reports Bloomberg’s source, which does not want to be named. In June of last year the battered smartphone manufacturer had already spun off its virtual division . the HTC Vive Tech Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of the manufacturer. The price of HTC Vive last week from 899 euros to 699 gave the company’s share a clear leap to the top.
