Before the iPhone concept: Google publishes experiments with ARCore
Apple’s presentation of ARKit at the WWDC in June must have been a shock to Google : Finally, the search engine giant and Android developer with Tango wanted to take a long time in the Augmented Reality area. Unlike ARKit, however, Tango needs special hardware, which can only be found in two smartphones. One day before Apple’s press conference, on which the company will present its new iPhone model, Google will publish some experiments on its recently presented augmented reality solution ARCore.
ARCore: From Streetview to the espresso machine
Among the experiments now presented by Google in the blog also belongs in principle old acquaintances. Namely to use the training, a previously unknown espresso machine. The VR experiment showed success, the subjects learned much better in virtual reality than through YouTube video tutorials. While the people who had learned in virtual reality needed only two passages for a good espresso, YouTube learners needed on average three passes. Now Google has brought the guidance into the Augmented Reality with ARCore. With better results than in VR? According to Google-Blog, users have succeeded at the first attempt to produce an espresso with perfect crema on the new machine.
Another experiment with ARCore uses Streetview and lets one into the British Museum. Another project is aimed at architects who can project designs directly over the real environment. In this way, building projects can be assessed directly on the spot in “reality”. This and many more selected experiments, such as Morph Face, Google presents on his blog and on thisisarcore.com. Google’s ARCore presupposes Nougat alias Android 7. Tomorrow from 19 clock Apple has certainly his answer ready and will present some selected ARKit projects. With iOS 11 all current iPhones andiPads can use ARKit. We will soon report what is happening in the sector.
