Oculus presents a new interface for Rift
The universal menu, which can be accessed within games and applications, is replaced by a far more advanced and comprehensive system. It listens to the name “Dash” and is optimized for Oculus Touch. The biggest advantage of Dash is that it works like an overlay, which you can activate in the running app, so the VR experience is no longer interrupted.
Dash is reminiscent of the movie Minority Report style interface, where windows dangle in the air and can be moved around with the wave of a hand. With Dash, you can switch to other programs, open the software library, connect with friends or display digital screens and place them anywhere in the virtual space. According to Nate Mitchell the head of Rift development, it is also possible to ping and watch videos from the Internet in the digital environment while you are working or playing in virtual reality.
With the new Oculus Home, the starting environment becomes a virtual living space, which can be adapted to your own needs. The furnishings include toys, furniture and works of art. Trophies of achievements from VR games can also be placed on the shelf.
Purchased games are presented in the form of classic game modules, through which you can jump into the apps. In addition, you can invite friends to your digital home to spend time together or play games. Oculus wants to develop even more possibilities of social interactions over time. In addition, Rift users can look forward to new avatars, which are scheduled to be released in early 2018.
The beta of Rift Core 2.0 will be rolled out in December as a free update for all Rift users.
