The Chinese hardware developer Pimax has launched a preview of a kickstarter campaign for their new 8K and 5K VR glasses. The VR glasses were already on the CES presented . However, this is currently a preliminary campaign. Accordingly, relatively little information is known about the price or the official campaign start. However, the manufacturer plans to ship the first models in December 2017.

New 8K and 5K VR glasses from Pimax

The new Kickstarter campaign of the Chinese company Pimax serves to finance the new 8K and 5K VR glasses. And these can be quite impressive if you take a look at the technical specifications. Thus the VR glasses reach not quite the promised 8K and 5K, nevertheless they offer a much higher resolution than the currently known VR glasses of Oculus and HTC .

The Pimax glasses include two built-in 3840 x 2160 pixels LCD panels, 2560 x 1440 pixel OLED panels, and a larger Field of View of 200 degrees. Comparing this with the resolution of the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive of 1200 x 1080 pixels, you can see clear differences. Due to the higher resolution, the developers would like to counteract the disturbing fly lattice effect, in order to enable an even better immersion.

Prices are not yet available. The first models are, however, already in December 2017 the first supporters of the campaign reach. The official versions will be available from February 2018 onwards. The VR glasses are compatible with SteamVR , which will allow you to play games with the Pimax glasses. In terms of tracking, the VR glasses use the Lighthouse tracking system from Valve. In addition, the manufacturer wants to enable inside-out tracking with additional modules. Depending on your preference, you should be able to switch between the tracking methods.

When the Kickstarter campaign starts, has not yet been determined. According to rumors, the start date is 19 September 2017, but the developers have not yet confirmed this. We will keep you informed about the start of the campaign as well as other news regarding the 8K and 5K glasses.
